CHAPTER

FIRST, WE PASSED A MESSAGE.

01

THE BREAK

People needed to know who was safe and where help was available. A central feed was gone, and the remaining devices were mismatched and old.

02

THE IDEA

A repairable local relay node made from familiar parts. The interface shows only the essential information: nearby connection, message status, and the next reachable person.

03

THE BUILD

The visual prototype pairs a simple message flow with physical node diagrams and an offline-first interaction model. Large status shapes and redundant labels keep connection state understandable.

04

THE INTERACTION

On the case page, a simple sequence animates one line connecting three nodes when scrolled into view. Labels remain visible without animation.

05

WHAT CHANGED

The first dot lights up. Then another. A neighborhood begins talking again.

FIELD NOTE

After The Silence, KAI finds a way to pass short messages between homes without the city’s central network.
